The Giant’s Causeway is a World Heritage Site which attracted 1.2 million visitors pre-Covid.   People come from all over the world to visit these beautiful rock formations.  I’m just giving you a few tips for visiting the Giant’s Causeway.

Paying at the Giant’s Causeway – When you arrive you will be told to enter the visitors centre you have to pay £13 per person, this is true, however, the Giant’s Causeway site is free to visit!  You do not need to pay the fee at the visitor centre to see the Giant’s Causeway.  The visitor centre has a restaurant, souvenir shop and information about the Giant’s Causeway but it is totally up to you if you want to pay.  When you arrive at the visitors centre there is not a sign clearly saying the Giant’s Causeway is free.  So be aware of this.

Where to park – Don’t park on the roadside, there are double yellow lines everywhere so you must not park on them.  You will get a fine or get your wheels clamped.  To avoid paying for each adult in the car you can pay a one off car park fee at the Causeway railway station of £6 for everyone to visit the Giant’s Causeway.  A local farmer also has opened up a field where you can park and pay a fee of £6 saving you lots of money.  Then walk up to the Visitor Centre but don’t go inside just go around the the back of the centre and walk down the steep hill which brings you to the hexagonal formations.  This can save you a lot of money.

Best time to visit – The best time of the day to visit the Giant’s Causeway is early in the morning just after you leave your accommodation or late in the evening after the visitor centre closes.  If you go in the evening you can park at the visitor’s centre for free and walk down to the rock formations for free.  Middle of the day is a very busy time and should be avoided if possible.

What to wear – always bring your waterproof/windproof coat with you to the Giant’s Causeway.  Even on a sunny day it can be very windy down at the rock formations.  Good footwear – the causeway is full of uneven surfaces so wear comfortable shoes – no high heels.

Hope you enjoy your visit to the Giant’s causeway which is close to Valley View Country House for you to stay during your visit.

I hope you enjoy your visit.
